School District #23 (SD#23), in cooperation with the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association (KMHA) and Hockey Canada, offers an ADVANCED SKILLS PROGRAM (ASP) at Okanagan Mission Secondary School.
The HCSA is an officially licensed program of Hockey Canada. The program’s long-term goal is not to develop professional or international calibre athletes. The outcome is to enhance a student’s confidence and self-esteem with individual hockey skills, and to link athletics to academics, while at the same time making efficient use of available ice time at local facilities during the school day. Students will receive course credits as per their grade level.
The ASP is open to players of Advanced Skill Levels, (grades 9-12). The students must be keen to improve their individual game and to maximize their own potential. All students must be playing Rep hockey at the time of application.
ADVANCED SKILLS PROGRAM FEE: $2300.00 (full Year program)
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, March 11, 2016. (Application completed online at okmhcsa.weebly.com)
The HCSA’s are based on a number of principles:
· Strictly supplementary to the existing programs run by Local Minor Hockey Associations; · To provide additional training for minor hockey aged players; · Focused on skill development, offensive creativity, and academic achievement; · May not establish or develop teams for competition; · Sanctioned for operation by Hockey Canada, BC Hockey and SD23.
HCSA’s are under the operation and direction of the school sponsoring the Academy program.
The Academy teaching staff and on ice instructors are trained and sanctioned by Hockey Canada and the National Coaching Certification Program. Instructors undergo annual professional development through the HCSA training program.
